On my wife's laptop, running IE6, an error message pops up every 8 minutes after the hour and 38 minutes after the hour like clock-work saying
"Daily Reminder...w/current date"
(Same display as a "cannot display page"
"Cannot find DNS or server"

WE have to go to the "Task Manager" to disable each time

How do we correct?
Thanks

Any chance you're running a program that updates itself
every 30 minutes and you're behind a firewall?

I was thinking something like WeatherBug. Perhaps the
program sends a request out, but for some reason the
firewall is blocking the page from responding to the
request so it times out.

It's just a hunch. Perhaps someone else has a better idea
or has seen the problem before?

Thanks for the try! I investigated in the direction you suggested...nothing :
The only programs that are updated automatically are Windows update and NAV auto-update
It's strange that it would happen in Win.IE6 and not indentify as what( program) is asking for a reminder as when typing in a URL. Shes' not running a firewall so it might be a glitch in her browser.

hmmmm... still....the fact that it occurs at 30 minute
intervals suggests something very predictable. If it were
just a random browser problem I'd think the timing would
be more sporadic.

When this happens, is the browser already open? Or does
some background process launch the browser? Is it a full
browser? Or a specially customized, popup version of IE?
IE is VERY configurable and often software vendors will
launch it without the taskbar, no icons, etc. Ya see that
a lot on web sites that offer a "Print Version" of a
document.

Kevin,
Yes! The browser is already open. It will even pop-up when I am off-line telling me (that) also...that the page cannot be viewed off-line! Here is what I have done so far.
Re-installed IE 6, reviewed my settings in the "advanced" tab in the "tools" menu. Everything looks ok there. I have run an anti-spy-ware software to clean things up....still it pops up!
It DOES say that it IS an Explorer message at the bottom of the pop-up. At the top it calls the pop-up message a "Reminder", with the current date next to it.....curious!

Kevin
Found what the problem was...an executable from HP to remember to register their product. Had to go to regedit to delete
Thanks for your effort
Will
