Win XP - Deleted Users

Guest

Hi there,

I have an HP laptop which is currently running XP. I have it on a wireless
network and have recently installed Norton Firewall etc.

When trying to access the settings in Norton it kept telling me i was not
the authorised user even though there was only 1 user profile of Administator
on the system. By hitting log off and then selecting Administrator again it
would allow me access to all settings of Norton.

This got a bit tedious each time + a few other programs didn't want to work
without going through the same process.

So... i was in a section in Control Panel, the name escapes me, and i
disabled the Guest and Administrator user profiles (a small red cross
appeared on the users 'head' icon) meaning that all profiles were off. I
thought this would have allowed me to boot up, and go directly into windows
without the profile screen.

Unfortunately, windows now displays the screen asking me to select a user
but there's no icon - i'm stuck!

I've tried all options like safe mode etc but cannot seem to bypass it.

Can someone help me out please?

p.s. there are no passwords on any profiles, i would just click on the icon
and would immediately be logged in.

Cheers,
Ross

What a pickle!

I would try ntpasswd from
http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html. It appears you
can manipulate account settings from this disc.

Hello ,
Boot to Safe Mode, ( not safe mode with networking)
In Safe Mode, you should be able to logon as administrator( it's a safety
thing to be able to logon as administrator in Safe Mode even if the account
is disabled) , then re-enable the account or create a new account to use.
Thanks,
Darrell Gorter[MSFT]

Try to boot in safe mode and at Welcome screen press Ctrl+Alt+Del several
times - it will change to Logon screen.
Enter Administrator as username (since it's never been renamed to another)
