Hey there,

Don't know wether one of you has experienced the same
problem but here goes nothing :

We would like to upgrade our network to Windows 2003
server. Our PDC is still NT4.0 SP6 and we've got 2
standalone server on Windows 2000.

So, we tried to introduce one of the Windows 2000 servers
into the network as PDC to be able to switch the old PDC
to Windows 2003 server in the meantime. We switched all
connections for user management ot this new PDC. All went
well for the Win98 users we've got but the Win XP users we
introduced noticed a strange thing :

Their personal folders were copied to each other Win XP
client in the network ! So Win XP user 1 suddenly had all
the folders of Win XP user 2 and 3, Win XP user 2 recieved
the folders of Win XP user 1 and 3 and so on... Moreover
we noticed some problems with Profiles that seemed to be
vulnerable for this switchover. in the end, we had to
perform a fallback to restore all functionallity but we
still needed to erase the copied folders on the XP users
desktops...

Does someone have any advice upon this issue as there
certainly are workarounds for this problem but I would
like to know wether this is a security problem between
Windows 200 sever and Windows XP...

Thank you very much in advance.

Best regards,

Kurt

I'm not entirely sure but it sounds like you need to set
up folder redirection in the group policy for the users
organizational unit (the container where the users are)
active directory. Look at properties of the organizational
unit then - group policy and edit or create a new policy,
then goto - user config, windows settings, folder
redirection,my documents. Then look at properties of my
docs, keep basic setting and in target folder put the
location for the user folders, eg:

\\server\share\%username%

If you don't know what the heck I'm talking about I'd
suggest getting a book on win2k with a decent section on
the Active directory and Group policy - you're going to
need to know this in 2003 too.

Hope this helps

Adam
