I inserted a music CD in my CD-ROM drive. Then, a text box appeared telling
that some files needed to be installed, so the music tracks could be read. I
accepted and it started to process the install. Suddenly, Windows shuts down
and restarts with no reason...
Then, a screen appears telling:
"Windows can't start, because the file is missing or it is damaged
C:\Windows\System32\Config\System
You can try to repair this file running the Windows Configuration Program
from the original configuration CD-ROM.
Select "r" in the first screen to start the repair."
I changed the boot sequence in my BIOS settings so that I could start the
WinXP config CD and run the Repair. I run the repair option and it asks me to
choose the Windows installation which I want to repair, I choose it and it
goes to a command line as in MS-DOS (c:\windows>) and I don't know what to do
next...
Each time I turn the computer on, it doesn't show the error screen anymore.
Instead, it reaches that point in the boot sequence where the WinXP symbol
appears and goes down, restarting and restarting all over and over again....
What can I do to repair the system files? Thank you.
