Win XP Boot-up

I reset/power up my XP box. The black screen 'Windows
Home Edition' appears for a few seconds. Then a couple of
boxed mesages fly by on the screen too fast to read them.
Then the blue screen with 'Windows is starting up...'
appears. And that's all folks.

What's gone wrong? Can it be fixed? How?

Step #1 is to try and boot in Safe Mode. To do this just hold down the F8
key after the system POSTs and you'll see a boot menu with this option. If
it does boot in safe mode then something is loading on startup that is
causing the problem. Use MSCONFIG to troubleshoot this by selectively
disabling startup items until you can determine which one is the culprit.
Often times you'll also find evidence in the system event log by looking for
errors.

I have 4 Failure Audit lines in Security log, as follows
(newest to oldest from top to bottom)
1)Logon failure Reason: Unknown user name or password.
User name: paul
Domain: blahblahblah
Logon Type:2
Logon Process: User32
Authentication Package: Negotiate
Workstation Name: to0_complicated_to_type

2) Logon attempt by MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_V1_0
Logoin account: paul
Source Worstation .....
Error code 0xC000006A.

3) Same as 1 except Auth Package is Advapi

4) Same as 2

Does that make any sense??

How can I freeze the screen to see what are the two error
boxes that fly by between the black screen and the blue
screen?

I welcome any help you can give. This is most annoying
and frustrating.

Thanx
P. Cress.
