I have a desktop running Win XP and a laptop running Win
98. Despite a working network connection, they won't show
any shared folders so I can't transfer files. Any idea
how I can do this?

Thanks for any useful advice!

both machines need to be in the same workgroup [MyComputer | properties],
and both need to have "Microsoft File and Printer Sharing" installed and
bound to the network interface. [control panel | network, protocols and
binding tabs]. Then you need to define the shares [hard drive |
properties, sharing tab]. At that point you should see the other machine
in the Network Neighborhood and you should be able to double click it to
see the shares it has made available.
