I set up a simple two machine ethernet network between a
WIN XP Home machind and a WIN 98SE machine. Everything
was working fine until about a week ago when I noticed the
two PCs did not see each other anymore.

The only thing that has been done on either machine in
that period of time is that the auto updates for the
Windows updates have each run once on each machine. I've
tried everything including uninstalling and reinstalling
the NICs and drivers. Nothing is working.

The two units each see my satellite modem which is also
connected to the hub, but they do not see each other.
I've checked and rechecked all settings and even re-run
the XP wisard on both units, all to no avail. What once
worked beautifully works no more, AT ALL.

Is anyone else having this problem or does anyone have any
suggestions on resolution. I'm getting desperate!

You may want to try restarting the computer browser
service on the XP machine. Go to the control panel,
administrative tools, services, and then right click on
the computer browser, stop the service, then restart it.
I don't know if it will work, but it has in the past for
me.
