Win XP and user permissions....

I'm a little new to WinXP and I'm having some problems
with certain programs not being able to be used unless
logged in as Admin. Is there a simple way to give
the 'limited' user access/rights to certain programs,
without giving them full admin rights? I'm having problems
with certain CD burning software (CD roller, Nero) as well
as Norton Clean Sweep on one PC, and the latest version of
ICQ. Is this something that needs to be addressed per
software, or something with windows admin controls?

Some applications just won't work unless the user is a local admin. In my
opinion, these applications should not be certifiable as Windows-compliant,
but that's not up to me. Nobody writes unix programs that only run as root
(unless that access level is actually required) -- it's stupid.

Anyway, I wanted to mention that Nero apparently has a program (Nero Burning
Rights, I think) that will let you assign mortal users the necessary
permissions to burn CDs. Or, you could just use Roxio which works fine for
normal users.

As for the other software, 'fraid I can't help you. If enough people
complain to the software manufacturers, maybe they'll get the hint. You
could put in a plug for MSI installations while you're at it.

Yeah, it seems like alot of software makers either were unaware of
what XP would be like, or just didn't care, and they're gonna loose
customers, starting with me.
