Hello everyone,
HELP!!
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the
server is not responding. If you entered a URL or path to
play the file, verify that it is correct. If you clicked a
link to play the file, the link may not be valid."
This is the message I continue to get when I try to stream
internet audio/radio on my Windows 2000 Professional OS.
I currently have a cable-modem connection through Comcast,
and I don’t know if it has anything to do with proxy
settings but with the cable modem all the defaults are
already set to LAN and Auto-detect. Either way, I had the
same problem with AT&T dial-up prior to installing
Comcast. There is no Firewall on my computer and so far I
have tried reloading Windows Media Player several times.
I can play audio files that are already on my computer
through the player. I am not tech-savvy but it seems that
my computer isn’t connecting or exchange pertinent info
with certain servers because I also can’t connect to the
Norton site to get live virus updates, can’t finish a
Windows update, and the RealPlayer has the same problem as
the Windows Media 9 Player. It seems simple, like
something that is converting or blocking the exchange of
files needs to be tweaked.
I took it to a service department and they looked it over
and said everything looks okay, but just in case I had
any/all viruses removed. So far I have scoured Windows/
Media help sites and Google Groups but I still can’t
figure out what is wrong and its driving me crazy. Any
insight or simple troubleshooting advice is greatly
appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill G.
