Where did the hard disk come from/ who formatted it/ what drive is
windows 98 installed on?

HDD came with the Dell machine a few years ago...problem just reciently cropped
up. Only one drive and one partution>C drive.
Only recient addition to computer was a NIC and a Westell Modem from and for
Verizon DSL.

Have you ever taken the hard disk out for anything?

How old is this machine? If it's from perhaps 1999 it might only have a bios
with an 8 gb partition limit.

Got it some time in 2000
I'm pretty sure it showed 40 Gb in the past.
