I have windows 98 with explorer 6.0. Explorer will lock
the operating system with the only recovery being to power
down and start up again. The problem is random. I can be
surfing the net for hours with no problem or it can happen
twice in 5 minutes. I didn't have this problem with
Explorer 5.0. Sould I re-install it? Any thougths on this
would be greatly appreciated.

Screen freezes with IE are most commonly caused by video drivers that need updating. Go to the web site of your video card manufacturer and get the latest drivers for your card. As a work around, try turning down your hardware acceleration, color depth, and/or screen resolution. If these work, then new drivers are in order.

Other causes are scripting engines that need reinstalled or updated: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/webdev.asp
Or the Java VM: http://download.windowsupdate.com/m...l/MSJavWU_8073687b82d41db93f4c2a04af2b34d.exe

And, if you are using a McAfee anti-virus program, and it's set to scan all files, try changing it to scan programs and documents only.
