Win 95 to Win XP Pro

What is the best way to get data files from my old Windows 95 computer to my
new Windows XP computer? I also have an Windows 98 computer, if I need to
take the data to it first. Thanks

There are several approaches to doing this. Which is best for you
depends largely on how much data you have to transfer. Here are
some choices:



1. Transfer them on diskettes.

2. Transfer them on CDRs.

3. E-mail them from the old machine and read the E-mail on the
new one.

4. Network the two computers, and just copy the files over the
network.

5. Temporarily (or even permanently) install the old computer's
hard drive in the new computer and just copy them over.

6. Use a USB thumb drive
 
I would love to be transfer to CDR, however the CDROM on the Win 95 machine
is R/O. Is there a way to burn one that I don't know about?

No. You must have a cd-rw drive in order to burn cd's. And IIRC, USB
wasn't supported until Windows 98. I think the easiest and quickest way
to get the data is to physically remove the Win95 hard drive from the
old machine and slave it in the new one (or in a testbed computer with
a cd-rw drive). If you are uncomfortable doing this, have a computer
professional do it for you. If you want to do this yourself and need
more help, post back.

Short of installing a CDR drive, no.

Assuming that you have substantial data to transfer, your best
choice might be number 5 below, which I see Malke also
recommended in another message.
