Win 7 Windows Mail program was gone?????

As reported today by NY Times:
In the Windows 7 test versions released earlier this year, the built-in
Windows Mail program was gone, along with Windows Photo Gallery and Windows
Movie Maker applications.


Now what?
 
As an 80 year old who has always utilized Windows mail 1986 on,
well I still say now what?

Have zero experience with any other mail services.

Well, I supposed you've either gotta acquire some new skills, use webmail in
Win7, or stick with Vista (or WinXP).

Many of us complained to MS about this but we were ignored (possibly because
MS hopes to see sales of MS Office/Outlook increase...it's all about the
money, honey).
 
Windows 7 does not support Windows Mail, that's why it appears to be " gone
".
MVP Gary VanderMolen has a method to " trick " Win 7 into accepting Windows
Mail.
Just wait for his reply and instructions.
You can, if you want to, " upgrade " to Windows Live Mail which is supported
by Win 7.

Hi, Barron.

It's true that Windows 7 comes with no email or newsreader at all. No Photo
Gallery or Movie Maker, either. This is no secret; it was announced months
ago. But maybe that's not all bad...read on for The Rest of The Story...

At least part of the reason, I suppose, is that Microsoft's competitors
complained that they could not sell their products if MS bundled features
that made their offerings unnecessary. Another reason was because we users
complained about the "bloat" in successive versions of Windows. By
eliminating Mail and some other features from Win7, MS was able to produce a
slimmer, trimmer Windows 7 that focuses more on OS functions and less on
applications.

It seems to me like convincing Ford to start selling cars without radios so
as not to compete with audio companies - but then each new-car buyer would
have to drive to a radio store as soon as he got the car. Is that progress?

Now, suppose your Ford or Chevy dealer stopped including the radio with the
car and said, "You're free to choose any radio you want - from Best Buy or
Wal*Mart or Bose or whoever you like." But, suppose the car dealer also
said, "Or just pull around to our service department and we will install a
radio for free!"?

That's kind of what Microsoft has done. Just go to http://download.live.com
and download - for free - from the smorgasbord there as many (or as few) of
these as you like:
Windows Live Mail
Windows Live Messenger
Windows Live Writer
Windows Live Photo Gallery
Windows Live Movie Maker
....
and more.

Many users like Windows Mail, but I - and many others - prefer Windows Live
Mail. There are enough differences that you WILL notice. But there are
enough similarities that you should feel comfortable with WLM soon. It's
kind of an evolutionary progression from OE to WM to WLM. All different,
but with a strong family resemblance. In your 80 years and my 74, we've
survived a LOT of much bigger changes than these. ;<)

Windows 7 has a prominent download link for "Windows Essentials"
which includes updated replacements for the programs you mentioned.
One of those is Windows Live Mail. If you have any plans of upgrading
a Vista system to Windows 7, you should first upgrade your Windows
Mail to Windows Live Mail:

Except for advanced users who know what they're doing, I don't recommend
using the hack that enables Windows Mail to run under Windows 7.
For one thing, certain default protocol associations like handling MailTo
links don't work properly.
