My system IS 64 bit OS. System Info says 64 Bit Operating System. Any other
ideas why it won't upgrade?
Thanks.

LMO was trying to upgrade a 32-bit OS to a 64-bit one, something that can't
be done. He would have to do a clean install.

Tells us what you have currently and what you are trying to get to.

You are all plain wrong. As I said, I have a 64 bit system, running a 64 bit
Vista OS. I was trying to upgrade to Win 7, but it kept telling me you
cannot upgrade a 32 bit system to the Win 7 64 bit system. Why am I getting
that msg?
Thanks.

Replying in your other post I stated that you need to verify that you have a
64 bit system. You have stated multiple times since that you indeed do have
a 64 bit operating system currently running. I apologize as I do not have
the answer but would indeed be curious as to why you get the message and
what you can do about it .

Well, I guess you're out of luck. You'll just have to start a clean install.
If it makes you happier, I was also unable to upgrade (I was greeted with a
BSOD after enlarging a system partition).

Bite the bullet, life goes on.

Hi LMO,

Please be certain that the installation is 64-bit. Just because the hardware
is x64 does not mean the operating system installed on it is. In the Control
Panel under System, the general tab should indicate whether or not it is
under "system type".

System Information from Windows does not give you the bit value of the
operating system. It gives you the following:

64 bit based PC

They are telling you what hardware the operating system is installed upon.

If you want the information about the "operating system", right click on
Computer and go to properties. There you will find the system type.

Now, please stop with the foolishness.

This guy is a Troll . Keeps doing these types of posts all over the MS newsgroups
and with different names.

Almost certainly, you are wrong when you say you are running 64-bit
Vista. Did you check it as you've been asked to do? Hold down the
Windows key and press Pause|Break. What does it say there about the
operating system you're running? If it doesn't say 64-bit, it's *not
64-bit.

Right click on Computer, select Properties. The information is there.

My computer says "System type: 64-bit Operating System".
