Trying to update my Win 7 32bit IE 11 machine with update KB2964444 with no success. It will get to about 80% than stop. This is a Dell machine. My Toshiba laptop had no problem with the update. Thanks

Try disabling any AV software and do the update again. A better option would be to install Google Chrome :thumb:

Maybe replacing IE a last resort, although I've not gotten any suggestions other than yours on two other sites so far.

I've had to shut that off because it keeps hanging up at around 80-90% and won't complete. Here is some of the things I've tried, but it always get to a point where it hangs.

MS offers a Windows Update Troubleshooter

And I wrote the following some time ago

Did you check in Services that Windows Update service and Remote Call Procedure service are on?

Reinstall Windows Update Agent (different links for different Win 7 systems (32bit and 64bit))

Run the Windows Update Readiness tool:

Run SFC /SCANNOW from a Command Prompt

Run a System Restore to a date before the problem started.

Run a Repair Install. A Repair Install should not affect personal data or installed programs. but it never hurts to backup first.

I'm afraid there would probably be only one person on these forums that uses Internet Explore these days, and they, I would say, didn't have a problem.

I personally gave up on IE when I 'upgraded' to Win 7 ... turned IE off, and, totally ignore any specific updates appertaining to it.

You have certainly tried your best to "fix" the problem ... not much we can do, apart from suggest an alternative browser ... me, I use Chrome.

The frustrating thing is, I also have a laptop that upgraded with no problem. I have, however, installed Chrome on my desktop just in case. Thanks again.

I still use IE in Win 7 occasionally, but only when other browsers have problems with sites, such as RS components. Having said that, I've not liked IE since Version 8, 10, in my opinion, is awful.

It's worth installing other browsers just to see if they will manage the updates for you, you can always uninstall the other browsers later if you don't like them.

Do you know anybody else who could download the updates and put them on a USB stick for you?

Of browsers, I'm probably odd cos I postively hate Chrome and dislike Firefox.

I use Opera :) (boo, hiss, calls of derision etc etc ;) )so you could try that and it may also be worth trying Safari just for your downloads/updates.

Good luck.

I was able to install that update on my laptop, so how do I put that update on a stick and attempt to load it on my desktop?

Ran into the same problem on the install, hangs. I guess it's time to try a new browser on my desktop, as nothing seems to work. Thanks again for you help.

Went to a site and d\l a different SP1 to disk and then did an install. After the install, I had somewhere around 120 updates to install, not sure if that included the recent ones or not. I was now also able to delete IE11 in the control panel and to go back to IE10 which I had no problem in updating. Now my updates seem to be 'updating'.
