Win 32 and Skype

I have XP and am trying to downoad Skype to talk to my daughter in Italy.
Should be a slam dunk...can't download as I keep getting this message...
C:\DocumentsandSettings\name\desktop\skype\skypesetup.exe is not a valid
Win32 application.
Have installed updates, rebooted, downloaded again. Keep getting this
message. What am I missing? What do I need to download or install???????

Are you running it from thge Skype site or trying to download the
installer?

Try downloading it somewhare other than the desktop.

I have a folder in Docs & Settings called "Installers" where I send
all installers and run them from there.
