Hello all. I recently installed win 2k pro on my system.
Everything worked fine initially. Now it takes several
minutes for my system to boot, I have almost given up
using the internet because of the slow response (I have
DSL). I also get a lot of out of memory messages. I
installed win 2k over win 98 thinking that 98 would be
overwritten. I guess my question is, is win 98 still on
my system using available resources thats causing the
slowdown of win 2k? If so, how can I remove win 98?
Sorry this is long, but I would "greatly" appreciate any
assistance. Thanks!

Several obserations: First, just how fast or slow is this computer? Want
to tell us something about it, such as its speed, amount of installed RAM,
etc...the important facts. Second, always better to have installed clean vs.
an upgrade to (or over) an existing system. And third, what has been done
to the system since the Windows 2000 install?

No Windows 98 is not on the system unless you didn't do an upgrade. In
any case it is not directly the problem. However there could be some
Win98 programs that are causing problems, especially utilities that are
loading every startup. Without lots more info can't tell root cause of
problem but do have some suggestions.

Uninstall any Windows 98 utilities.
Check system and application event logs for specific errors.
Check disk space that is free especially making certain there is enough
for page file.
Examine everything that is starting automatically and remove anything
that isn't needed.

If you come up with some additional info let us know.
