I've got a Gateway laptop with a Proxim Orinco Combo Card
Gold (supports 802.11a, b, and g) trying to network with
a Linksys 2.4 g wireless 4-port router (BEFW11S4).
Already have 2 desktops running Win XP attached (one to
the router and one with a wireless card in it) that work
fine.

I can't seem to get configure the laptop to properly
setup the network. Several problems:
1) If I connect a cable directly from the router to the
laptop I can get access to the internet and the company
VPN to get into Outlook, etc...HOWEVER, I can't do either
if I try to go through the wireless card (note that at
one point I could, but now I can't, even if I'm 2 feet
from the router--signal strength is excellent and through
working with Linksys tech support, I know I can ping
their website, yahoo, etc, but I still can't connect
anymore...any idea what I did or how to fix?

2) I can't seem to get the Win 2000 laptop to recognize
my wireless network running the 2 Win XP desktops and
vice versa? How do I configure the network to get it to
work?

3) When I was able to get access via the wireless card,
there were often problems with maintaining the connection-
-is there an inherent problem running a corporate VPN and
using Outlook? That's what my corporate IT department
says and they won't seem to help...

Thanks!

1. Make sure you are connected in to the wireless correctly and you are
authenticated to the access point using the correct wep etc.

2. Make sure you are W2K SP4. Also make sure you are running the latest
drivers from your nic manufacturer. This is crucial, as W2K doesn't have all
the native wireless stuff that WXP has.

3. No inherent problem, we here do this all the time from home. But make
sure your drivers etc are current.
