I have a PC with Win 2000 installed. I would like to replace 2000 by WinXP
Home. I want to keep current apps and data.

Is this possible? Is this an easy task? Can WinXP be just installed over
2000?

Peter.

Windows 2000 Pro is not an upgrade path for XP Home because 2000 has the
ability to join a domain network and Home does not.. 2000 Pro is an upgrade
path for XP Pro.

If you want to install XP Home on the computer you will have to reformat and
install a clean install of Home which would cause you to have to reinstall
all apps and data from the original disks and backups (if on the same drive
as the OS) respectively..

Any particular reason for wanting to install Windows XP? If
Windows 2000 is doing exactly what you want and the apps are
running fine, then just leave it alone. The upgrade path is,
as mentioned by LVTravel, to XP Pro. In the process, make
sure that the computer can work well with XP; our setup for
XP is 1 GB of RAM, 3.0 GHz or faster...at least 2X to 4X of
what Microsoft recommends.

Agree with you. In our company we still use windows 2000 because we haven't
found anything that is better in windows XP. Why go for something that is
slower and takes allot of more space ?

No, it's not possible.

Yes, Windows XP *Professional* can be installed as an upgrade over Windows
2000, but not XP Home.
