I am trying to install win 2000 in a new computer wiht
meets all the hardware requirement. my wim 2000 cd is not
bootable. I am trying to make bootable disks. i am
running with xp pro on this computer. the other computer
is for school.

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Windows 2000
CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute
makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the
prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

To run the W2k install when you cannot boot from the CD you must have
the 4 "setup boot" diskettes. These can be generated from the CD on any
machine that can see and read the CD. To do this:
1. Have 4 diskettes freshly formatted by W2k (or I suspect XP, but I'm
not certain of the latter).
2. Navigate to [CD:]\bootdisk
3. Run the makeboot.exe program and follow instructions. Feed the 4
diskettes to this program and label them as directed, by number.

The resulting 4-diskette set is bootable. With the W2k CD in the drive,
installation will proceed just as though you booted directly to the CD.

My mistake below: those 4 diskettes can be formatted by any system; need
not be W2k.
