I just had cable Internet installed. I've got a
broadband gateway w/4 port hub. My 2 XP machines access
the Internet fine. When I plug my Win 2000 Server box
into the hub, Internet access is fine for a few seconds,
then I start, and continue to get, 404 errors on all
machines. If I unplug the server, all is well again
after a minute or two. My server is not a domain
controller, etc.

What gives?

When you hookup the server dose it start to send out a huge amount of
traffic to the internet, (double click on the internet connection and you
will see packets sent and receiced) if you see a lot of traffiic, it is a
sign that your server is infected with a virus.

check to see if you have a dhcp server running on the win2000 boxen. most
common problems i have seen at lan parties and such is were some joker
conects with the nic he uses to share the internet with other computers on
his home network, it bring the entire network down in a matter of seconds. 2
dhcp servers competing will continuously reset each client and maybe even
flood the network offline.
