Frustrated

Morning all,

I need some assistance please. I am running 2000 pro on
an IBM A30 933 MHz 1 gig ram... Two days ago I upgraded
my Norton's System Works and Firewall from 2003 to 2004.
The firewall upgrade went smoothly however the SysWrks
gave data write/save errors. Ever since I have been
receiving the following error messages:

Numerous windows stop errors (C0000021a, 0x0000007A)
Windows System Error - Unknown Hard Error
SAS Window: winlogon.exe - System Error
Kernel_Data_Inpage_Error
Kernel_Stack_Inpage_Error
Operating system not found (on boot)
Inaccessible boot device (blue screen on boot)

I can successfully boot the laptop at times and can get
into safe mode at times. Typically I will receive the OS
not found msg - shut down - reboot and the os will load.

This is what I've done so far:
Ran the windows repair from the OS cd
Tested the memory - no errors
Removed all the Norton's sw and reinstalled SysWrks
Run checks on the hard disk - no errors
Gone through the Event Viewer - noticed a problem with the
SysEvent.Evt file from System Works - Corrected that
Attempted to scan for viruses
Attempted to reinstall windows - system halted during the
format phase

Do I have a problem with the OS? If so, what is the
safest way to completely clean my system and reinstall? I
have a full backup so I really don't mind starting fresh.

Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Frustrated,

If Windows Setup hangs while formatting the disk, it's almost certainly
hardware failure.

It's difficult to determine which hardware component is bad. It could be the
disk, it could be bad RAM. I'd replace the RAM first, but that's just a
hunch on my part.

runs a low level format it sounds like the norton sys
destroy the formatif i was you i would run a low level
