I have partioned and formated a disk drive (Fat 32) and proceeded with a new
install of Win 2000 Pro. I get to the stage where it loads all of the files
it needs to proceed with the install but when it re-boots it starts all over
again (checking the system etc). How do I get it to load up the files it has
prepared and commence the install. It is in a never ending loop. I have
tried resetting my bios settings but this has not helped.

Thanks Andy

Did you partition etc using the win2k cd, or did you use a third party tool.
Is this a reinstall, having worked before, or what?

Are you hitting the enter key again to boot from CD? Don't.........

No I'm not hitting enter when it says "Boot from CD" but it is just hanging
there and will not move on

Are there any other Harddrives attached to the system via PCI
"controller card" maybe?

Is this a raw built system or a proprietary machine?
How big is the drive?
Does your BIOS see its full capacity?
Is this a raw clean 2k without service packs integrated?

Maybe another suggestion.........Find out what type of Harddrive it is
and download the utility for it and do a *quick* wipe to zeros on
it.....Re-format it and let the install begin again......

There are no other hard drives, it is a raw built machine, yes BIOS can see
the capacity, the drive is 20gb (it will be a workstation), the win 2k pro CD
includes SP2.

The drive is a Quantum Fireball and they do not appear to have a disk
utility on their site; at least I could not find one.

Cheers

Sounds like your boot sector may be screwed up from the first
attempt......

Go to the "low level formatting" section
Drives by manuf.
Choose Quantum

Download ZDISK101.EXE

http://www.ameriwebs.net/groupworks/index.html

Thanks for that, I tried to download that file but the link has been broken.
However, I have now replaced the drive with a Quantum and I have their drive
utility disks and so if this install does not work I will look for the low
level format option and try that. It's really wierd, this has never happened
before and I have buily numerous machines in my time.

I'll let you now how I got on. Thanks. Andy

Sorry about that, I seen that after I posted the link for ya
already......

I've had instances where the boot sectors got mangled and generally a
quick wipe will write zeros to the beginning & end.......

Yes, let me know how it works out for ya.......

Would you believe it! Now after copying all of the files ready to install
upon reboot it says "CD Boot: Couldn't find NTLDR" What the hell does that
mean?

And by the way, I have tried this twice now with the same result; don't
forget this is a different disk!.

Is there a floppy in the computer maybe?

Did you quick wipe the drives?

You may have to repair your MBR(master boot record) if residual install
files are left from bad installs.........

I'm tellin ya, wipe the drives to zero......It has never failed in my
case with certain install issues.
