Is there a way to install a network printer twice - once with a generic/text
driver, and again with the standard PCL driver?

I have an HP4000 installed and working for a DOS program using the generic
driver. I would like to also have it installed using the PCL driver for
other printing.

I tried the "Add Printer" box but it won't create a new copy of the printer,
it finds the previous install and copies over that one.

I also installed it as a local (LPT1) printer with the PCL and tried
changing the port to the network port, but it wouldn't allow it.

What am I missing?

There may be other ways (not sure), but my suggestion would be to add a
second "printer" on the print server that has the HP PCL driver associated
with it. Then you can share both, the workstation can connect to both and
the user can print to either one depending on what they need to do.

On the print server itself, you can have several "printers" that send print
to the same (Standard TCP/IP) port.
