This is a P2 computer that I want to give to my grandson.
I purchased it from a friend when he closed his company.
It was running Windows 2000 Advanced Server. I just
installed Windows 2000 on it from a CD that came with it.
After install it is asking for the product key which is on
the back of the CD. However I enter the number and it
keeps telling me this is not a valid number. What do I do
now? This is all really out of my understanding so please
send any response in simple "non technical" language.
Hopefully it won't include a bunch of dollar signs. Two
computers have cost me a small fortune and one is running
now after reinstalling the OS and this is the other one.
Thank you

If you are *sure* you entered the number correctly
then someone must have put the wrong CD in the case

Is this a retail CD or OEM? You can try calling Micro$oft for support on
the retail. Their clearinghouse may be able to help. Contact your OEM
vendor for help with OEM media.
