Hi everyone,

I am the system admin, having full control on some users' folders in
my server. During clean up in the server, I was not able to delete
some folders where music and video files had been stored. The message
denying access is : " Cannot delete *.wma: The source file may be in
use". Note that * replace a particular file name.

Please help me to delete them and free GBs of disk space in my server.

Hello,

In addition to Full Control you should also take ownership
of the appropriate root folder and make sure that your
changes take effect all throughout the specified directory.

In the event that you're not familiar with changing
ownership here's what to do:

Right-click their root folder

Click Properties

Click the Security tab

Depending on your file structure you need to use your own
discretion if you wish to check or uncheck the box that
says "Allow inheritable permissions from parent to
propagate to this object".

Click Advanced...

Again, use your discretion if you need to check or
uncheck "Allow inheritable permissions from parent to
propagate to this object" and "Reset permissions on all
child objects and enable propagation of inheritable
permissions".

Click Owner tab

Check the box below that says, "Replace owner on
subcontainers and objects".

Highlight the appropriate owner name and click apply.

Click ok, Click ok

Now you should try to delete the items you were having
problems with. Let me know if you need more assistance or
if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Shawn
