Win 2000 computer interferes with network

I have a windows 2000 pro pc in a three pc network. The others are an
xp and a windows 98.

When the win 2000 box is plugged into the network, then all three lose
ability to reach the internet - through a netgear router. When I
unplug the box, the other two surf happily.
All three can communicate with each other even when they cant reach
the internet.

All three have netbeui and tcp/ip enabled.

Any ideas - could it just be a faylty tcp/ip stack preventing the
others from reaching the network?

You wouldn't need Netbeui. Can you post the ipconfig/all from all computers?

the ipconfig/all info would be interesting, but i would bet that the win2k
box has the same internal ip as the router. so when it is plugged into the
network the router detects the duplicate and shuts off the port and the
other two machines then try to use the win2k box as a gateway, which of
course it isn't.

Thanks for the reply's.Haven't been there to post the ipconfig's, but
will tell you a little more so you can perhaps see if your suggestions
are possible.

When all three are plugged into the network, they do occasionally get
internet access for thirty seconds, and then they drop out - I am not
sure if this conflicts with the "duplicate ip" theory. I will check
the configurations though and investigate this theory.

The other factor is this, the network was fine until a wireless ap was
added to the network. This is a netgear box that connects to the
router via ethernet, and transmits the wireless signal. The w2k and
win98 machines don't use this connection, but the xp laptop does
connect wirelessly. I am not sure if this problem coincidentally
occured at this time, or whether it is something to do with the
wireless ap.

Thanks for your help. Will post more details as I get them.
