Subject: Win 2000 Adv Server Looses all Printers every routinely
Date: Fri, 7 May 2004 12:24:29 -0700
Hello,
It started with adding a HP Laserjet 3330 via LPT to
Win 2000 Adv Server, and sharring it with other ststions.
Since that time about every other day I loose all
Printers and need to reboot. Once rebooted both Printers
are back again. I then deleted all the HP files on the
Server as best as possible and went to a JetDirect hoping
this would solve the problem, it did for the other
stations as I loaded teh drivers directly but not for the
server, still the same issue, loose both printers about
every other day.
Suggestions ?
----------------------
It looks like your Spooler service is crashing (your system event log will
show this).
Workaround -> You don't have to restart the whole machine, just the Spooler
service
Resolution -> Look for components installed by HP that are causing the
problem: Port Monitors, Print Processors, and Drivers.
Drivers:
================
Since the HP LJ 3330 does not have a built-in driver, you must either use
the ones from the HP CD or from the web, check the web for updates.
Port Monitors:
================
Check the following registry key for HP monitors. Remove any non-default
monitors:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors
The default port monitors are:
- AppleTalk Printing Devices (When Services for Macintosh is installed)
- BJ Language Monitor
- Local Port
- PJL Language Monitor
- Standard TCP/IP Port
- USB Monitor
- Windows NT Fax Monitor (when applicable)
Print Processors:
=================
There may be an HP print processor that is causing problems. Disable the
loading of any but the default (WinPrint) by deleting their respective
sub-keys from the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windo
ws NT x86\Print Processors
