This weekend I downloaded SP 4 for my win 2k. It tells me
the usual, computer must be rebooted for changes to take
effect. It reboots, comes up to the win 2k screen, and
reboots again, repeat.

I have tried starting in safe mode, and every other mode
available with no success.

Did you download SP4 using the Admin account? Did
you do the install while online?

I had the same problem. I down loaded online and while I
was in adminstrator...I guess 2000 is new for me. What's
the fix. Michelle

Microsoft itself tells you not run your PC as Admin . . .

Hi.

I had the same problem last night doing the same thing. I
was online during the install and I did use the Admin
account.

Any tips on recovery would be helpfull...

By the way, top posting destroys the natural we read.
Suppose that in the future, someone is searching
groups.google for the very problem you are experiencing
and they find this thread. Now if everyone in the thread
BOTTOM POSTS, the searcher can easily read through
the thread from top to bottom (like you would read a page
in a book) to follow the conversation.

The first suggestion is that you run anti-virus scanning software
offline using the Admin account.

Next install a firewall, if you don't already have one, and leave
it running all the time.

...but let's hear the results of the ant-virus first?

Running a virus scan and installing a firewall are not an option at all. I
am unable to login at all - not in safe mode, last known good, etc. Has
anyone had any success?
