WIM Capture

Is there a way to capture a built XPe image into WIM (Windows Imaging)
format? I tried to run the SMS OS Capture utility from WinPE on the OS but
the utility just says that the OS needs to be installed on C:, which it is
and WinPE can access the C: drive fine.

I believe you might be able to capture the image, mount it and view it, but
I don't think you will be able to boot into that WIM. Last I heard, the
Vista boot loader was required to actually boot into the wim.

I bet the folks in one of the deployment newsgroups listed below may know
the process to generate the wim and the definitive answer to which scenarios
are supported and not supported:
microsoft.public.deployment.desktop
microsoft.public.windowsxp.setup_deployment

In fact, i see a question and some answers in the 'desktop' NG listed above
titled "WIN XP and WIM 2.0 and backwards compatible" that may also help you.

Thanks Andy. I've asked the question on the other ng. Do you have to use a
special version of the OS capture utility to do this for XPe? The one that
comes with the SMS OSD feature pack just gives that error, "OS is not
installed on C:", but it is and I can access it from the command line fine?
