Hi everybody
i have a compaq deskpro with a pIII 650/100 on an Intel 440bx chipset
and a 82371AB PCI-TO-ISA/IDE XCELERATOR (PIIX4)which supports Ultra
DMA/33,
actually working with a WD10GB 7200rpm udma/33.
os: Win98se
No upgraded bios is avaible at hp/compaq sites.
Questions:
1) will a 120gb hd dma100 or 133 work on this system? (i don't mind
the speed)
2a)If not, there's something i can do about it?
2b) if yes: better a EIDE maxtor 120gb DMP9 2mb cache ATA/133 or HD
120,0 GB IBM-Hitachi EIDE 7200 ATA/100 2MB CACHE OR HD 120,0 GB
IBM-Hitachi EIDE 7200 ATA/100 8MB
3) other suggestions? (cooling ....)
Thanks

Should be fine.

Yes, some drives can be locked down to a lower UDMA
if there is a problem with the best the drive can do.
2b) if yes: better a EIDE maxtor 120gb DMP9 2mb cache ATA/133
or HD 120,0 GB IBM-Hitachi EIDE 7200 ATA/100 2MB CACHE OR
HD 120,0 GB IBM-Hitachi EIDE 7200 ATA/100 8MB

I prefer Samsungs or WDs to those myself.
3) other suggestions? (cooling ....)

May be desirable if its a rather cramped little deskpro case.
