Lol..Spa intro was a nightmare and it came right on the heels of the long awaited resolution for the modem disconnect problems.
Speaking of Jim...maybe he'll pop back in sometime. I hope he's doing well. If so I'm sure he's enjoying the outdoors and the mountains.

I got mine in 94. Have never paid a cent for the account. The only thing that drove me mad at one time like you Winston was that stupid SPA and all the outages. The person most upset was always Jim Forbes. lol

Not true Gary..
The last/latter two by the poster
"If you have a paid subscription - you could do it on WLMDB or on Outlook, if you have purchased that.
If you have a free legacy account grandfathered with access to Outlook - you can use WLMDB or Outlook."
The first, yes; the second, no. The second is unless I am mistaken is in reference to a free http account that if in use with OE prior to Aug 2005(grandfathered) allowed the included Windows email client Outlook Express or Outlook to retrieve http messages.
Installation of Vista as you know installs Windows Mail, while Outlook and WLMDbeta can be used to send/retrieve legacy(grandfathered) http mail it(Windows Mail) can not be used or fooled into use of a legacy(grandfathered) http account fee or free based.
Only an MSn pop3 legacy account can be setup in Windows Mail, and the suggested route is to use the original legacy nomenclature (
[email protected]) when setting up the account..doing so will allow the pop3 option selection instead of Windows mail interpreting the msn.com email address as an http account. The original legacy pop3 nomenclature can not be used for legacy(grandfathered) http accounts of the form msn.com since these accounts can not use the old or current pop3/smtp servers nor the Outgoing authentication and SSL requirements.
The original poster is correct in the options available for all forms of msn accounts.
There are some free legacy pop3 accounts(very few are still in existence) that were awarded to select individuals in the 1994 through 1999 time frame for service as forum managers, asst forum managers, chat or trivia hosts, web based forum managers[once the msnnews server was removed-note the double 'n'), original MSn-MVP(not the current), other MVP's and a few other very limited reasons. All of which still use the pop3/stmp protocol just like the original fee based legacy pop3 accounts but none of which required any form of 'grandfathering' for use in any MSn or Msft email client.

: In either of the two latter cases you should be able to use WinMail.
: You may have to fool the new account wizard by giving it a fake address,
: (other than @msn.com) and then correcting it after the account is set up.
