Will Windows Mail be made available for WinXP?

Nope. XP will stick with OE or the alternative "Windows Live Mail Desktop"
which is presently in beta. No further updates (other than security fixes)
will be released for Outlook Express.

Windows Mail is a buggy downgrade to OE. The new database system and search
is all very nice, but I actually want to know if there's a way to put OE6
into Vista!

No, since all versions from OE4 onward, were included as part and parcel of
Internet Explorer and you cannot install an earlier version on Internet
Explorer on Vista and you also cannot uninstall Internet Explorer 7 (which
does not include any version of Outlook Express).

It was a joke, Jim. I am just saying that I find this program
disappointing.

All I can say is that you are not alone in echoing those sentiments.

What I was hoping in my OP was if Mail provides the ability to have it's
message store located on a network drive.
When I try that with OE6 and WinXP Home the OK button gets grayed out iof I
select a network drive

No. It was something that was requested many times, but they didn't allow
for this.

I am surprised you guys don't like Windows Mail. It is a vast improvement
over Outlook Express. I just wish Windows Mail, Calendar, and Journal were
all available for Windows XP. If they were, I would have no need to upgrade
to Vista. Would it be possible to copy the program folders from a 32-bit
Vista install over to XP and use the programs? That would be cool if it was
possible.

WinMail has its own irritants, just as Outlook Express did. There is a
learning curve involved that seems to many to be steeper than it should be.

As for back porting functions of the program to an earlier Operating Sytem,
I doubt very much that it would do anything but trash a working XP install.
The system employs new code, new file paths, use of filepath "junctions" and
other features unique to the new system Vista.

We were informed that some of the features of WinMail would be back-ported
to XP, but I would guess that is now not going to happen.
