Will the new line of video cards of nvidia or ati be out by christmas?

I was thinking about waiting til christmas until getting a new video card..
do you think there will be a better one then the radeon 9800 XT by
christmas? OR if not how much do you think the 9800 XT 256 meg would be?
THink it would be really cheap liek 300 bucks Canadian? THanks :)

Yes. They should both have cards out very soon. The 9800xt would
probably be where the 9800 is now price-wise, so I would guess around
300-350USD. I don't know what that is in Canadian.

First rule of video cards, there will always be a better one coming out
about just after you spent a weeks wages on the latest and greatest.

Second rule is that after the new card comes out the prices on the card
you just bought will fall by half.

The thing that a lot of people don't talk about when mentioning the "new"
cards coming out is that they are going to be a whole new type of design and
will use the new PCExpress bus. Which means that not only are you going to
have to lay out a lot of cash for the new card, you're also going to have to
invest in a new motherboard to run it. This puts a little damper on my
excitement over the new cards coming out. JLC

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm under the impression that there
is a batch of ATI cards out soon which is supposed to be a rehash of
what's out there already, except that it will be for the PCI Express
Bus, and after that, ATI plan on releasing their next generation of
cards which are alegedly supposed to be about twice as fast as the
current 9800, and will be released for both AGP (R420) and PCI Express
(R423). Theses cards should be out before Christmas.

Yeah I need clarification on this also. What I understand is that the cards
that everyone are referring to as being "twice as fast" are the PCIExpress
cards. I thought that was the whole reason for the major performance
increase was the new bus. JLC

No. The bus is faster, but the current cards still don't even fill the
bandwidth of AGP2x, I think The GPU's in the new line of cards is simply
quite a bit faster (R420 12 pipelines, higher clock, more advanced shaders)

The line of ATI cards will have native AGP support, and could employ a
bridge chip to work with PCI-express. The NVidia, i am not sure, it might be
natice PCI-express, but it will also be fitted with a bridge chip to employ
AGP.

It would be quite stupid to only make a card in PCI Express, since even the
new Athlon will be without PCI Express for a while...
