I WANNA KNOW:

somebody tell me what the hell does this mean:

acs = ThresholdDet()

I WANNA KNOW:

help me figure out why the software is called "Access"

AND I WANN KNOW:

Is it possible for me to become an MVP?

And how do I block messages from a particular user?

Is there a way to identify a user's IP address, and block this IP address so
that message doesn't show up in my Outlook Express?

See below.

It means you are setting the variable acs equal to the value returned
by a function called ThresholdDet.

help me figure out why the software is called "Access"

Microsoft decided that would be a good name for their database product.

You have to be asked to become one. It's by invite only.

I don't believe you can do any blocking by IP from outlook express.

This is a volunteeer newsgroup. You have already received answers about the
user-defined function.
If you "wanna" learn about how Access came to be named as it is you can
either ask a question about references on the subject, or you can research
on your own.
Before you can become an MVP you will need to learn how to recognize a
function call, then a bunch of other stuff, and put together a number of
years worth of experience. See the Access MVP site for bios of the current
MVPs. Learning some newsgroup etiquette will help you learn Access, as you
won't be putting people off by posting to so many unrelated groups, and you
won't be shouting your demands for information.
I don't think you can block an IP address in OE, but you would have to check
in an OE newsgroup to be sure. Perhaps you can find the domain name
associated with an IP address; you can block messages from a domain.

Is it possible for me to become an MVP?

Sure. Join a Major League Baseball team; have an outstanding year; and be
voted the best player in the league. Something tells me that's your best
chance.......

Something tells me that there are a lot of people trying to figure out
how to block Trey Davis from their newsgroups. I know that if I could
figure out how, then I wouldn't have to put up with a brat that can't
even figure out that they named it Access because that is what they
wanted to name it, just so that whiners can come on a news group and
waste space asking stupid questions.

Now someone responded!!!! I WANNA KNOW if this is enough or or you going
to put it out there again?

I'm not a brat i'm just trying to figure out how to use Microsoft Outlook
Express and Microsoft Access together. Since they are both made by
Microsoft, there must be away to somehow connect them.

Trey

Obviously, you have some issues that are really bothering you. So much so
that you post questions that beg for flaming.

I suggest you take the time to write a professionally-styled question (one
per thread) and you will be amazed as to how quickly you get a
professionally-styled, helpful answer.

As to becoming an MVP, you must first be an expert in one of Microsoft's
products. Then you must spend a few years proving that you are an expert to
Microsoft by taking your free time to answer questions posted in the MS
newsgroups, and those answers must be correct and (once again)
professionally-styled.

Microsoft certainly would not award a very prestigious title to someone who
acts unprofessionally.

I hope you take this all to heart. It was writen in good faith.

Is that really all it takes to get an MVP designation? I always thought you
had to be published and have written programs available to the public and
this and that and the other! Hmmm...maybe there's hope for me after all! :)

Out of curiosity, is there somewhere that actually lists the MVP
requirements? I know it's by invite only, but other than that, I really
haven't heard that much about it.

For the official word, see:

http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/default.aspx

The award is given for volunteer public service of various kinds:
posting answers in the newsgroups, creating websites, publishing
books, and other means of providing useful information to users of
Microsoft software.

They can be used in tandem (for instance, you can send e-mail from within
Access), but you will need to describe just what you hope to do. Your
original post made no mention of Outlook Express, and you have not
acknowledged any of the replies explaining the function or anything else.
You did have some success at eliciting responses, I'll say that for your
posting.

if you want to be an MVP; all you have to do is dress in Pink and fight
for womens rights.

you can march in San Francisco.

MVPs; from what Ive seen (excluding one mvp i deeply respect) are a
bunch of wusses that tow the party line.. they should be referred to as
'the Microsoft YesMen'

I've never met a single MVP that knows jack shit about SQL Server.
bunch of MDB wimps should be spit on

Since you are an MVP, does that make YOU a wuss who tows (sic) the
party line, should be referred to as a Microsoft YesMan, and who
doesn't know jack shit about SQL Server? Or are YOU the one MVP you
deeply respect?

there is one MVP that I would work for free for...

most of the mvps around here dont know JACK SHIT about SQL
and it pisses me off that they spread misinformation

Microsoft gives the recognition to MDB-wimps anyways.. so who gives a
shit

MDB shouldn't be used; by anyone-- for any reason -- at any time.

Keep your DATA in a DATABASE and your life would be a lot simpler

and people that AGREE that an obsolete DAO technology should still be
alive.

If you don't AGREE with Microsoft then you're ****ed.

I got FIRED for disagreeing with Microsoft.
