I believe Office 2007 only will be compatible with Vista, Robin.
Try below - but I'm quite sure.

That would kill Vista for me. I have no, repeat no, intention of going into
a steep learning curve for Office 2007 when Office 2003 is all I need. Real
downer.

I can't say this for sure, but I wouldn't expect any difference in Office
2003 compatibility between the Vista editions:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/editions/default.mspx

And I'm not aware of any comptiability issues with any version of Office.
I've got Office 2003 running on Vista Ultimate, and Access97, as well, but I
can't say that I've done extensive testing.

I'm quite sure that if there was some reason that Office didn't run on an
edition, there'd sure be lots of publicity about that--I think this is
highly unlikely.

I ran a diagnostic tool on my notebook a few weeks back (which has Office XP
2003) based on a Vista Home basic installation. On the software front no
Office applications were flagged as problematic. NAV 2005 and Nero 6 reloaded
were however.

Stu

i did the test too and it came up with nero ultimate 7 cannot run but Vista
basic is the watered down version of Vista and i could not find out if
office 2003 would work on it. Microsoft stated that office 2003 will work
on all the other versions but did not mention the Vista basic.
I have a few clients that will need new computers in the next few mths and
they do not need all the advanced stuff that the premium offers but the
still need Word and Excel and have office 2003 and want to know if they
could put it on it.

Can you give me a reference to that statement by Microsoft?

Vista basic should be no different than XP Home in terms of Office
compatibility--I wouldn't expect any difference.

I do not have a specific reference because I surfed the internet and found
on several microsoft sites it says it will work on all the others but it
never mentioned the vista basic one- that is why i am asking- maybe i missed
it somewhere

Hi Robin,

I see that you have received a definite "yes" to your question by MVP Carey
Frisch in the vista.general newsgroup. One less thing to worry about.

Alan

I have Office 2003 and XP Pro. Ran Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor and did not
report issues with 2003 in any of the Vista flavors (Home Basic, Business,
Home Premium, and Ultimate). You have to check your system requirements for
Vista itself on the individual PC, but the answer is yes. You can use Office
2003 with Vista.

Robin seems to need a lot of convincing. Did you know Office 2002 works with
all versions of Vista too Alan? ;) ;). Only wish I could justify the expense
of buying the new notebook I`m going to need to successfully run any version
of Vista. The one I have now is just not up to the task.

Stu

Hi Stu,

Yes, I asked about Office XP/2002 in that thread in vista.general. Carey
Frisch confirmed that Office XP would work fine with any version of Vista,
also.

Alan

it is amazing what software will run and what will not run.
I ran the vista upgrade on 2 computers.
1 is 4years old- dell dimension 8200 running xp pro sp2 (this was rated the
best in its field when first bought) and the utility told me it is not even
up to par for vista basic. After figuring out what it would cost me in
hardware (about $400) and about $300 in software) there is no way I would up
date it to vista

The other computer was bought 5mths ago- dell dimension 5150 and I would
need about $100 upgrade in hardware and about $400 in software and alot of
pain to find updates for the programs that might just work.
Based on this evaluation. I will not upgrade it unless I have no choice.

For the first computer, I probably would wait about a yr and wait till all
the kinks come out and prices come down a bit for Vista Ultimate or at least
vista business.

Looking at pricing for new computers have gone up around $300+ more than
they were with XP. The only ones that have not risen that high around 100+
are the ones with Vista Basic, since it is the 'watered down" version of
Vista.

It might be less money now for my clients who want just the basic to stick
with XP because I am betting all the manufacturers will be having sales on
their "old" inventory (1day prior to Vista coming out) to purchase that
since I cannot see XP vanishing so fast.
