I have an hp, and running out of memory. I tried to
instal 256sdram, and the computer will not recognize it .
What do I do ...

Carolyn,

What model Hp is it? What OS? How do you know you're running out of memory?
Have you been to the Hp site to see if there are any articles pertaining to
your HP model concerning this particular issue? A lot of questions and not
much help I know, but this info will give someone an idea as to what the
problem might be.

1. Make sure your new memory is the right type
for your computer - use Crucial's configurator
at http://www.crucial.com to find out.

2. If you *added* the 256MB, try removing the original
memory and see whether your computer will
recognize the new module that way.

3. Try the 256MB in a different slot; it's possible you
have a bad slot (however, some mainboards won't
let you skip slots). (Look in your mainboard manual
to make sure you put the 256MB module in a
correct slot in the first place.)

4. Hopefully you "went by the book" when you
installed the new module; otherwise you could have
damaged it. (Precautions against static electricity;
switch off your computer *at the surge protector*,
or unplug it.)

5. If your new and old memory modules work
separately but not together, then the modules
don't match closely enough. In that case, get
matching modules.
