I have the following problem with windows XP:
When I first insert a cd in my cd drive it reads it no
problem, but if I remove the cd or put another cd in the
drive it will not read it. The only way I can get it to
read the cd is to log off and log on again.
Thanks for any help.

If the same problem happens with different CDs, then its your drive. If the
problem only happens with one particular CD, then it is the CD.

It sounds like you're having drive problems. What kind of drive are you
using? When did the problem start?

I have a Sony CD-RW CRX195E1. This happen after I
installed Windows XP pro. It was running OK with Win 98.
Thanks for your reply.

I have had same problem. I can only get the cdrom to read
anything only after I restart the computer with the new cd
I want to read. I thought it was drivers and the burner
uses the microsoft drivers. I bought a new cd rw I/O Magic
and it is doing the same thing. Don't think it is the
burners. I noticed this started happening after loading
one of the security updates. Help, this has cost me days
trying to troubleshoot. Also, when in Device Manager, it
says that everything is working properly. NOT!!

I have finally got the cd-rom to start working right but only in SAFE mode.
Now I know that it is not hardware,
the challenge now will be to find the software that is causing the error.
Any suggestions on an easy way to eliminate
software that is loaded?
