I have had to re-install vista twice now....each time it cannot load the cd
drive....each time i start it wants to look for the driver for this "unknown
device".....i have both a liteon dvd r-w and a hp dvd r-w ....i've tried both
drives.....i've tried making cdrom.sys run in xp compatibility mode and as
administrater......please help

i have similar hardware liteon dvd rw and a hp litescribe rw which worked
fine. plug and play actually. Then one day they both didnt show up in my
computer but were shown in device manager with code 10 errors saying they
couldnt start. For me i found this to be an issue with having itunes on my
computer. Removed the program and my drives work again. I dunno may be
different issue for you but maybe check some recent loaded software to see if
its blocking it

problem is starting from setup.....now explorer see's drive but says to
insert a disk even though one is in drive....thanks

have you let the driver search search online or tried gettting xp drivers
from liteon and hp?

I researched this on the internet with the manufacturer and found no help, so
I broke down and researched the file structure needed for the LSC-24082K ATA
Device (Slimtype Combo DVD/CD-RW) to work properly and my solution is as
follows:

On the test I discovered four(4) missing files ...

These following files belong in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS folder.

AFS2K.SYS
IMAPI.SYS
PXHELP20.SYS
REDBOOK.SYS

Make sure that the file CDROM.SYS is present in that above location too.

There is also a dependent file, STORPROP.DLL that should be in the
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 folder

After copying the missing files to there proper place I uninstalled the
driver and restarted the system and everything was working perfectly.

My install type was an upgrade, but for some reason VISTA deleted the
dependent files needed for the DVD/CR-RW to work properly.

Good luck, I hope this works for you.
