When I click on a LINK in IE and a NEW window is needed to download the
page, the page STARTS but NEVER downloads it just sits there. ANY help
please. OR can I Un-install and Re-install IE as this may cure the problem.

Further to this...

When I pass the mouse over the links they show as "SHORTCUT" in the lower
bar.

This is a little vague. reinstallation may help, but you
may want to try other sites, or other trouble-shooting
first.

For instance, when you say a new page is needed - what
are you doing? single-left-click? right-click and
choosing new page? what kind of link are you clicking?
If you have the status bar open, it'll show you the
destination of the new link. If the new link is anything
but a folder or HTML document, it may be trying to figure
out what to do with the attachment. Is it going to an
FTP site? These are notoriously slow, and often filled,
and you'll not get an error for a long time.

I know that's a lot of questions, but until we know what
you are trying to do, it's hard to help.

You can help yourself some though, by trying other
similar links if you know of some, and paying attention
to what they say when you hover over them, down in the
Status bar. Turn on the Status bar by clicking "View |
Status Bar".

Good luck!

Interesting. Shortcut is generally speaking an invalid
link, unless they are purposely disguising it. There are
good programmers that purposely disguise the links to
hide them from you. Why? I don't know, but perhaps to
help prevent hackers, or something. Anyway, if the link
really is just a "shortcut" then it may in fact be doing
exactly what it should be doing - nothing. I'd check
another site and see if it happens everywhere.

For instance, on this site, if I hover over "contact us"
in the lower left corner, it says in my status
bar "http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
pr=cntactms" This lets me know where my link is heading,
and that link then appears in the Address box when I
click on it.

Shortcut isn't a link. It could be java and something
hidden, but that makes it FAR more difficult to
troubleshoot. You may in fact need to contact their
site. But try other sites to see if you have the same
problem, because if you do (strange as that may be) there
may be something else we need to look at.

Make sense?

Thanks Tom for the info.

This happens on ALL pages and I am single LEFT clicking. If I Right click
and COP then open a NEW window myself and paste the shortcut it opens fine.

Is there a way I can take IE OFF and re-install it ??
