You Know Who

I would check out the specs of the video card which should be available
online. LCD's work best when they are set at their native resolution and
refresh rates, so that is a major factor to look for when you are shopping
for them. you could consider a video card upgrade. Unless you are into
games, a reasonably priced card ($40-70) would suffice.

LCD's do not suffer from the flicker effect as do CRT's, so a 60hz setting,
which isn't unusual, might well suffice. If you are used to CRT's, you may
or may not like the transition (personally I still prefer CRT displays) but
the only way to be sure is to go in and actually see one (for more than a
couple of minutes).

I was thinking of getting a 22" wide screen LCD monitor to replace our
current one, but then I wondered maybe our video card won't support it.
What should I look for? Our video card is NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 200, and
I was thinking of getting the Gateway FPD2275W.

It looked nice, but all the LCD monitors I saw had this one quirk I
didn't understand. They only looked good when the refresh rate was set
to 60Hz. Setting the refresh rate to 59, or 75, or something other than
60, like I've been taught to always do with CRT monitors, and vertical
bands of blurr appeared across the screen, about an inch apart. Strange.

So I'm asking around to see if anyone knows about these LCD flat screen
monitors and if it will work on our computer (a Dell 8200, maybe 4 - 6
years old.) Our current monitor is starting to have problems.

Be careful. There's analog only, and DVI only, or both inputs on some
monitors. The input for the monitor must match the output type of the video
card.

Some monitors won't do default resolution (640X480) in windows.

My LCD analog does well at 72Hz.

With a wide aspect monitor your video card must be capable of
producing wide aspect (16:10 ratio) output and preferably at the
specific resolution that the monitor is designed to work at. With a
22 inch display this will most likely be 1680 x 1050. If your video
card won't do this then your monitor image will be stretched
horizontally so that circles appear as ovals, people look 100 lbs
overweight in photos, etc.

Open Control Panel - Display - Settings and click on the Advanced
button. In the advanced window go to the Adapter tab and then click
on the "List all Modes" button and see if 1680 x 1050 is listed.

Good luck
