I have a MS Word 2000 CD. I'd like to put Word 2000 in my WinXP desktop pc.
The Word 2000 CD says for Windows NT and 98. Is the Word 2000 I have
definitely not compatible with my WinXP?

First - try it.
Make a system restore point, run an extra run of youtr periodic file backups
(to be extra safe) and do it.

Secondly - yes - Word 2000 should work on Windows XP.

Hello,

I have Word 2000 Pro on about 10 XP home and pro computers at last
count. Works just fine.
One suggestion:
Copy the entire CD to a backup partition, or some other suitable
location and run the setup installation from there. One, it goes much
faster; and two, every time Word has to install some additional
function, you won't be asked for the CD (where is that damn thing??),
but will install directly from the location where you copied the CD
to, and installed initially. No fuss, no muss!

Microsoft Word 2000 is definitely compatible with Windows XP and Windows
2000 as well as Windows NT and Windows 98 (I have five licensed Office 2000
installations that have run under Windows 2000 and Windows XP.) After you
install, be sure to update with the necessary security and other patches.
You can find a list of the downloads applicable to Word 2000 at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...roductID=8F3E100D-A0E4-4C77-8F2E-E747ECFC85B7 .

You should use the latest service pack and all of the more than a dozen
security related patches listed.

Two points:

1. When your CD was produced, there was no Windows XP, so it wasn't
possible for it to say anything about it on the CD.

2. Word 2000 definitely *is* compatible with Windows XP. So is Word 97
and Word 95.

It will work. I use Office 2000 at work, we have XP Pro as our OS.

XP is NT-based, so I don't see why it shouldn't.

It's jut that Office 2000 came out before Windows XP did, therefore omits
WinXP OS listed on the box as (one of) the OS requirements
