Will definition updates get any smaller?

Are there plans to substantially shrink the size of downloaded
definition updates? I currently have updates dated April 10, and this
evening my computer's Automatic Updates began downloading a 2.6 MB
update file. This is a serious problem for those of us who are stuck
with dial-up. On top of the large size, Automatic Updates didn't appear
to be using background downloading like most Windows updates as this
definition update was making my connection unusable for anything else.
I do hope there are plans to change this because right now keeping the
program current seems to be impractical for us with slow connections.

This doesn't sound good--I'm sure that the intention is that it be like
other automatic updates--careful of your bandwidth.

I've seen discussion of incremental definition updates before, but don't
know the current thinking on this issue--Microsoft is definitely aware of
this as desireable.

We are actively working on getting incremental definition updates going - as
you may have noticed, signature updates have been a little challenging for
WD. We're attacking the problem on multiple fronts, but we're trying to fix
one thing at a time and get it right.

Sorry I can't give dates and such, but we're definitely working toward it -
we don't want to push that big a package out any more than you want to
download it unless we have to.

Regards,
Joe
