Will 64-bit work on my machine?

Hi,

I am currently running teh 32-bit version, and its running fine. But if I
installed the 64-bit version will it be faster or more efficient in any way?

Though I still want to run a lot of my apps but they arent all that old.

This is a beta. The idea is to try stuff and report on what works and what
doesn't. If you have a 64bit machine then by all means try out x64.
 
Can you give us your machine specifications? The processor and motherboard
models will tell if you can load the -bit version. Keep in mind too that one
of the biggest problems encountered with running the 64-bit version is a
lack of proper drivers for many peripherals. Even if you can run it, you may
find that some of your hardware won't work with it.

That may be the case with OSes, but not necessarily CPUs. If you've bought
a brand new machine within the last 6 months odds are pretty good that it's
64-bit capable (especially on the AMD side).

The original poster might know he's paid for an "Athlon X2 of some sort"
(which are all capable), and it's entirely possible the salesguy from your
average mom-and-pop shop wouldn't even think of mentioning it.

But I would agree with your statement though if the original poster had
asked whether he's got 64-bit OS...
 
also, if you look at the welcome to vista window, if you havent disabled it
already, it will show the cpu type at the time. Atleast on mine it shows amd
athalon 64 3200+ running at 2016mhz..
