WiFi on P4P800

Hi

Yet another query. I have a USB DSL Modem which will be connected to my
P4P800 MoBo. Can I use the optional WiFi card from Asus to provide a
wireless DSL network to my other PC and PDA (Which is WIFi compatible) or
does it HAVE to be an Ethernet modem for this facility to operate
correctly?

It needs software to work. When an OS has "Internet Connection
Sharing" (ICS) or something equivalent, that is a software
layer that routes packets between interfaces, based on the
addresses contained in the packets. When no ICS is present,
then only one network interface can be opened at a time.
With a modern OS, this shouldn't be a problem, assuming
you haven't disabled the routing function.

Even though the Wifi card is only $25 or so, I would recommend
you do some Googling to see if everyone who owns one of
those is happy with the software. A lot of great hardware
these days is hobbled by substandard software, so investigating
driver quality is just as important as investigating the
hardware end of things. It may turn out that a PCI Wifi card or
an external Wifi router is a better solution.

As far as I know, any interface that "networks", is a candidate
for Internet Connection Sharing. I cannot think of a reason not
to keep any existing networking devices you've got.

As far as I know, any interface that "networks", is a candidate
for Internet Connection Sharing. I cannot think of a reason not
to keep any existing networking devices you've got.

I have the WIFi on my A7N8X-E and a cable modem connected
to the ethernet connector by way of a wired router
on the motherboard. My house is wired and I have wireless
access point for my laptop via the Asus WIFi card.
The only downside is in order to use the wireless AP, my
Asus computer has to be turned on. If I used a standalone
AP or a wireless router then my computer would not need
to be on. The software for this seems to be adequate.
The cable modem is running at 3Mbs and my WIFi is running
at 11Mbs, so there is plenty of headroom.

Pretty much doing the same thing here with a P4C800-E and ADSL
Modem/Router through the network port on the MB, all works well.
