Wierdest problem I've seen

Am trying to fix a friend's computer and it's like being in the twilight
zone. First it was loaded with spyware and viruses. I took care of that
running 2 anti-virus programs (Norton and AVG) and 2 spyware removers
(Microsoft and Spybot). All these programs can access the Internet to update.
Furthermore I installed Firefox and it works fine. It is running XP home
SP2.

When you start IE the part of the window where the web page is displayed is
blank! No errors, in fact it seems to find the page because the top bar
changes to the correct address, but the screen is blank. Furthermore many of
the munu commands don't work like tools..internet options, and edit..find,
etc. I can get to internet options from the control panel but the General,
Privacy, and Content tabs are missing. One final thing, Norton anti-virus
won't display status but it is working.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Greg

Oh come now. I've seen weirder problems than that. Some of which I caused.
However...in your case, viruses and/or adware may remain on the system.
Spyware, particularly, can be very elusive. And even when you are successful
at removing it, the removal itself can mess up a computer. I would try other
spyware removers or HijackThis.

Thanks all but I found it myself. The dll file called mshtml.dll was missing
from the windows/system32 folder. I found it elsewhere and restored it,
reregistered it, and it solved all my problems.
