Help with word pad,etc

I created several files using word pad - When I open them, all I see is
weird boxes and different characters. I know that I either created them with
wp 10, or word pad or note pad. And now that I want to open them I see these
weird characters and symbols. Can you help answer this and show me what to
do. In My Documents, I have a few things there that I created using either
of these three programs. But not all are doing this. I have WIN XP home

If you created it in WordPad or Notepad, you would not have this problem. I
don't think WordPad can open WordPerfect files. You'll either need to
install Word Perfect or you will have to check with Corel, the makers of
Word Perfect to see if they have viewers for WordPerfect files.

Word processors you their own formatting and as such, files of one cannot
always be open in another. If you have MS Word, it may be able to open the
file. You would first need to open Word, then go to File, select open,
navigate to the WP file, select it and press enter. If Word can open it, it
may ask you if it can convert the file to a format Word can read, accept
that option. You can try this with WordPad but I don't believe it has this
capability. Notepad does not have this capability.

It can open them, but nobody will be happy with the results. All
the formatting codes come out as strange characters. Not only is
the formatting, but much of the text is garbled too.

LOL, I think that's what I meant!<LOL>

OK, sorry for misunderstanding. I just wanted to clarify the
situation. Sometimes a program will refuse to open a particular
file type at all.

No problem, Ken, it just struck me funny when I saw it.:-)
