This is a weird one...

Environment: Win2K workstations, Win2K servers, Active directory. single
domain.

From Windows Explorer, if I right-click | properties on a file (stored on
"server1") there is a BIG delay before I get the properties for back
(like 30 or 45 seconds). If I ATTRIB the file to be ReadOnly, the
properties dialog comes back instantly, as you would expect. I can
toggle this on and off all day long and see the delay come and go as I
describe.

Other facts: This happens for many, BUT NOT ALL workstations. If a
workstation "has the problem" it works as I said for all files stored on
the server.

Also, this is only happening on ONE server. A workstation with the
problem CAN access file-props for files on other server with no delay.

Also, machines that have the problem shwo the same strage delay opening a
file by clicking on an embedded link - like in an email (eg - in outlook,
if you type \\server1\share1\filename.ext Outlook turns it into a url and
you can click the url to open the file). When I click such a url,
there's a 30 ro 45 second delay till the file opens. If I flag the file
RO, it opens instantly.

I have also tried to see if this is related to the RO flag itself or the
actual ability to write to the file. EG - I CACL'd a directory to give
myself just RO NTFS rights, leaving the file ATTRIB as NOT RO. This
still had the delay. SO, there's something about the RO bit on the file.

Strange, huh?

Anyone ever seen anything like this?

Thanks. --> A.J. Fried
