Width of desktop shortcut titles

Is there a way to force the name under a desktop shortcut to be shorter in
width and wrap the text to one or more new lines?
For example, the name "Internet Explorer" under the IE symbol is 17
characters long including the space; I'd like it to form 2 shorter lines, so
I can space the icons closer together.

Changing the number of lines in the name wouldn't affect the icon spacing.
In "Advanced" under "Appearance" in Display Properties" there are settings
you can change for boh icon vertical and horizontal spacing. Size too.

Those spacing setting work in conjunction with right click desktop, arrange
icons, align to grid, auto arrange. If you turn off those, you can put the
icons anywhere you want...even one on top of another.

Thanks, didiOH. I don't have my icons aligned to a grid or auto arrange.
Where are those settings located?

Regardless of the size of the icons, I want to be able to control the width
of the name underneath. Some of them are too long, preventing me from
spacing the icons closer together. Instead of "Internet Explorer" on one
line, I'd like to force it onto two lines:
Internet
Explorer
Is there a way to do that? Or is the width of the line determined by icon
size?

By right clicking the desktop. As I said.

Read again what I wrote the first time.

I have dozens of icons on my desktop and they are mostly in two lines. I
have it set to align to grid, and not to show dropdown boxes under icons.
Putting the icons any closer would just be confusing.

I'm pretty sure this is how to increase the word space.
I won't try it because I have everything set-up perfectly and I don't want to *uck it up.

1. Open "Display Properties" - Right-click the Desktop and select Properties.
2. Open the "Appearance" tab, click the "Advanced" button.
3. Click the down arrow for "Item" and select "Icon Spacing (Horizontal)".
4. Change the size.

I found that if I choose a smaller icon size, the allowable width for titles
is also decreased, so it solves my problem. My icons are not on a grid, so
the icon spacing might not help.
