Hi, can anyone help me? I got my computer just over a year ago and has been working ok since. Yesterday though a msg came up saying that my disc is full. I've got bout 12gb of music movies etc. but it says i have used 68.7gb. Its only a 70.9gb total. Does anyone know what im doing wrong or whats using up all this memory? I was goin to do a system recovery but dont want to loose my programs or music, thanks

sorry cant remember the exact msg. think it somethin bout me only having 612ish mb left to use and i was to free up space!! I clickeed on properties on my c: drive and it showed a kinda pi-chart thing which says my computers full. i deleted a load of movies and music allready but it dosent seem to go down much. Sounds daft but should i be deleting the stuff that i remove from my recycle bin (does it go to a folder after its deleted) sorry im no much of a computer whizkid.

hi, i've also just noticed that in my computer the name presario c: is in a blue font while others are black.

That may be something you need to do - right click on the recycle bin and tell it to empty :)

Whatever's in the recycle bin will be seen as stored data. Empty it.

And consider buying a new hard drive :p

i,ve cleared the recycle bin. Not really want to buy new hard drive. How does a new one work anyway do you just plug it in??

You either buy a new hard drive or bin loads of stuff. Your choice.

If you're not sure about fitting a new hard drive consider an external drive that connects via USB port. You could store all your media files on that.

You should also consider some kind of backup. Have you ever thought how you'd feel if your current hard disk failed completely? And hard disk failure is common.

probably need to get a new hard drive. My problem was just that there seems to be 50gb of stuff in my computer that i cant account for! my media only really comes to 12gb if that. Didn't think programs would take up the rest.

Sounds as if you may have a virus and or adware/spyware present then.

Download AdawareSE; A-Squared and run your anti-virus software after updating it.

If you don't have any anti-virus software, load on Avast or Antivir and run them.

It's also worth installing Spywareblaster as well, this stops bad stuff from getting onto your machine in the first place.

All the above software is free and should be easy to find using Google.

Thanks for your reply. i have just deleted 6 episodes of lost which are only 359mb each and it has cleared up 56gb of space???? seems ok now thanks for your help. will run spyware doc.

Sounds like you been visiting some iffy sites then.

Some DVD movies will have anti-piracy code on them making them appear much larger to prevent copying.

You have probably downloaded 6 episodes with anti-piracy software intact.

Beware where you visit.

And, as that stuff is kind of illegal anyway, we ain't allowed to discuss it here, so please don't carry on any conversation here in that vein. Thank you :)

Good to see you found your problem. The software I've mentioned is good and well worth having. Only use ONE anti virus program at any one time though, most different AV programs will clash.
